SURFACE INSPECTION APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface inspection apparatus by which the rear-side surface of a steel plate can be inspected simply and easily in a poor rolling environment and without using a special movement mechanism even in a place having many structures. SOLUTION: The apparatus is installed in a process which manufactures the steel plate 1 by a hot rolling machine so as to optically inspect the rear-side surface of the steel plate 1. An optical device which irradiates light to the rear-side surface of the steel plate 1 in the lower part in the proper position of a group of rollers 2 used to convey the steel plate 1 rolled by the hot rolling machine to the side of a winding machine and which detects reflected light from the surface is arranged and installed inside a building 5 of dimensions in which an operator can come and go. The rear end part of a hood 12 is attached to the central part of a roof 11 installed so as to cover the building 5. The tip part of the hood 12 is situated to the side of the steel plate 1 from lower ends of the rolls 2 so as to be inserted between the rolls 2.
