PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a substrate for a liquid crystal device prolonging operable time with a battery by utilizing external light. SOLUTION: The substrate for the liquid crystal device 10 is constructed by forming a photocell 20 on a projecting and recessing face 15 of a substrate 14, by forming a color filter 27 on the photo-electric cell 20 and by forming a transparent conductive film 28 on the color filter 27. The transparent conductive film 28 is optionally formed as pixel electrodes corresponding to respective pixels in a liquid crystal display and having active elements electrically connected thereto and the photocell is optionally formed corresponding to respective pixel electrodes.
