PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize the deterioration in amenity due to the operation of the temperature protecting function of a mounted IPM, in an air conditioner. SOLUTION: The air conditioner is provided with a thermistor as well as a temperature detecting circuit for detecting the temperature of the mounted IPM and a control means for limiting the operating condition of a compressor or stopping the operation of the compressor in accordance with the detected temperature of the thermistor. The control means detects the thermistor temperature at every predetermined time (step ST1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6) and when the detected temperature of the thermistor is higher than a first predetermined value, the operation of the compressor is stopped (step ST8) and when the temperature of the thermistor is lower than a first predetermined value (100 deg.C) but not lower than a second predetermined value (95 deg.C), the present number of rotation of the compressor is reduced to a predetermined number of rotation (ST10) while only the increasing control of number of rotation of the compressor is prohibited (ST11) when the temperature of the thermistor is lower than a second predetermined value but not lower than a third predetermined value (90 deg.C).
