PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gas sensor which prevents an element from getting cold and which can obtain the early light-off time. SOLUTION: A metal cover 23 is constituted of a quadrangular cylindrical cover 45 which covers the circumference in the side of a detecting element 5, and a pair of holding parts 47 which are extended upward from upper parts of opposite sidewalls 45a, 45b of the cover part 45. The holding parts 47 are fitted and inserted into a through hole 49 of a ceramic holder 7. That is to say, inside the through hole 49 of the ceramic holder 7, the holding parts 47 of the metal cover 23 are arranged in a gap between the surface of the detecting element 5 and the inner surface of the through hole 49. The metal cover 23 is composed of a heat-resistant alloy, and it is molded to be a nearly quadrangular cylindrical shape by executing a press working operation and a bending operation to a nearly F-shaped plate member. The holding parts 47 have a corrugated plate shape, and a locking part 51 which is bent to the outside at right angles is formed in their upper end. |
