PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium and a method for optical recording using a recording medium excellent in light resistance and stability of preservation, applicable to DVD-R disc system using a semi-conductive laser having an oscillating wave length in a short wave length range and making it possible to change a solubility without producing a change of an optical property which is the cause of error. SOLUTION: An optical recording medium and a method for optical recording is characterized by containing at least one of azo metal chlate pigment compounds represented by general formula (1) in a recording layer, as to the optical recording medium provided with the recording layer on a substrate.
