PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accurately check a carbonizing chamber with such a coke oven wall damage causing a leak between the chamber and the adjoining ones due to debonding. SOLUTION: The objective method for sensing a wall damage site in a coke oven comprises the following practice. In extruding red hot coke 40 from a carbonizing chamber 14 to an extinguishing truck 28, the extrusion velocity is synchronized with the movement of the extinguishing truck 28 to successively discharge red hot coke loaded from the coke side to machine side of the carbonizing chamber on the extinguishing truck 28 from one end over the other end thereof, and the optical information emitted from the red hot coke accumulated on the extinguishing truck 28 is checked.
