PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bleaching composition that has excellent bleaching activ ity against water-soluble pigments at a low temperature. SOLUTION: The bleaching composition includes, as a component for activating the bleaching agent, a peroxide compound and an aromatic (thio)ketone derivative represented by the following general formula I (wherein R<1> and R<2> are identical to or different from each other, H or a lower alkyl; R<3> is an <=10C alkyl which may be arbitrarily substituted; R<4> -R<6> are identical to or different from each other, and are selected from the group consisting of H, hydroxyl, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl, a halogen, an acyl, an amide, carbonyl, an alkoxy, sulfonic acid or sulfonate salt; Y is an O or S atom).
