PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a printing position from being irregular as a result of a bulging page because of the number of opened pages of a book and a transfer resistance. SOLUTION: When the booklet is transferred, a transfer distance of the booklet after a leading end in a transfer direction of the booklet is read before page information at a specific position of the opened page is read is measured actually (S7). The presence/absence of an output difference in a focal length direction between read information near the leading end of the booklet and read information near a binding part is detected (S10), whereby bulging of the booklet is detected. The transfer distance of the booklet is corrected with reference to both information on a deviation amount of the opened page from the leading end of the booklet and on a bulging state of the opened page (S11-S13). The printing position is thus prevented from being irregular as a result of the bulging of the page due to the number of opened pages of the booklet and the transfer resistance.
