1,166,591. Aluminizing; electro-plating alloys with nickel. DEUTSCHE EDELSTAHLWERKE A.G. Jan.30, 1968 [Jan.31, 1967], No.4702/68. Headings C7A, C7B and C7F. Articles of steel,Ni alloy or Co alloy are coated with Ni, suitably by electro-plating, then have Al diffused into their surfaces by treating in a powder of Al oxide and Al metal. The Ni coatings may be 3-20Á thick and the Al-containing layers produced 20-100Á thick. The surface of an alloy comprising 20% Cr, 2-4% Ti and 1-4% Al by weight, remainder Ni, is degreased and pickled, then given a 10Á coating of Ni by a 15 minute electrolytic treatment in a hydrochloric acid/Ni chloride bath at 35‹C. , with 25 ft/dm<SP>2</SP> current density, and is heated for 5 hours at 1100‹C. in a powder mixture containing 5% Al and 95% Al oxide by weight. An alloy comprising by weight 43% Co, 20% Cr, 20% Ni, 4% each of W, Mo and Nb, 0À4% C, remainder Fe, Si and Mn, may be treated also. The articles treated may be gas turbine blades. |
