A charging device for a shaft furnace comprises a hopper 2 with top and bottom openings closed by slide valves 3 and 4, a feed conveyer 5 oscillatable over the width of the top opening and an enclosed two-part distributer in the form of a container whose parts 6a, 6b are pivotable about shafts 7 extending through the hopper walls. The floors 9 of the parts 6a, 6b in the open position rest on the sloping walls 10 of the hopper. Hydraulic or pneumatic motors 11 operate the valves 3 and 4 and also through linkage 12 the shafts 7. The distributer prevents excessive free fall of fragile charge material, and on opening it, said material rolls along the floors 9 without breaking and with a certain mixing of large and small particles. |
