A sewing machine, comprising a tension mechanism (2) having an operating part (6) movably installed on a base part (5) along the direction of increasing or decreasing the spring force of a tension spring (4), a slope cam (7) installed in an opposite direction to the tension spring (4), and a cam link (8) with a cam pressing part (14) insertable or retractable along a direction intersecting the direction of the spring force of the tension spring (4), wherein the operating part (6) together with the slope cam (7) are moved in the direction of increasing the spring force of the tension spring (4) according to one of the insertion and retraction of the cam pressing part (14) of the cam link (8) and in the direction of decreasing the spring force of the tension spring (4) according to the other of the insertion and retraction of the cam pressing part (14) of the cam link (8) onto and from the slope cam (7), whereby the sewing machine having the tension mechanism capable of accurately adjusting a yarn tension can be provided.
