PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently manufacturing in a short time a high-molecular weight PAS reduced in the oligomer content. SOLUTION: In a method for manufacturing a polyarylene sulfide by reacting a polyhalogenated aromatic compound with a sulfidizing agent in an organic polar solvent at a temperature of at least 200 deg.C and lower than 290 deg.C, the reaction above comprises at least the following steps 1 and 2, step 1: a step for forming a prepolymer of a polyarylene sulfide by reacting a polyhalogenated aromatic compound with a sulfidizing agent at a molar ratio of the solvent to the charged sulfidizing agent of at least 3.5 and at most 10.0, and step 2: a step for converting the prepolymer into the high-molecular weight polyarylene sulfide in the presence of a polymerization auxiliary by adjusting the molar ratio of the solvent to the charged sulfidizing agent to at least 1.5 and less than 3.5. |
