PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an air conditioner, in which a heat exchanger and a drain pan are prevented from becoming moldy. SOLUTION: In an indoor unit, an inlet is provided in the front center, and an outlet is provided below the inlet. A heat exchanger and an air-supply fan are provided in the indoor unit. An air-supply course is formed by allowing the heat exchanger, the fan, and the outlet to communicate with each other. An electrostatic precipitator and an ion generator are provided in the air-supply course or in the vicinity of the outlet, and a room-temperature sensor and a heat-exchanger sensor are provided. A horizontal blade for air deflection is provided at the outlet. The blade is positioned horizontally or diagonally to the upside after an air conditioning operation is stopped. A controller is provided for conducting a fan operation at a low rotational speed, and a sterilizing operation by simultaneously operating the precipitator and the ion generator. The time for sterilization operation is made variable based on the temperature of the room temperature sensor or the heat-exchanger sensor. A sterilization switch is provided for selection of the sterilization operation. Alternatively, the time for sterilization operation is made variable based on a temperature difference between the room sensor and the heat-exchanger sensor. The sterilization operation is indicated by an indication means.
