PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil applicator which smoothly applies a release oil to a fixing roller, is capable of achieving the stoppage and reapplication of the oil application with a simple structure and does not give rise to the oil leakage during stoppage and the application deficiency in the reapplication. SOLUTION: This oil applicator is constituted by laminating an oil application layer 5, a porous molding 6 and an oil storage section 7 successively in this order from a side in contact with the fixing roll 2 and supplies the release oil 9 of the oil storage section 7 by gravity to the fixing roll 2. The oil applicator is formed with air flow ports 8 circulatable with the atmospheric side on a wall section 7c in contact with a gaseous phase section 7b of the oil storage section. The air flow ports 8 are held open when the release oil 9 is applied to the fixing roll 2 and the air flow ports 8 are held closed when the application of the release oil 9 is stopped.
