PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device in which disclination caused by the lateral electric field in the gap between pixels or the like is suppressed and bright images with high display quality can be obtained. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal device, each substrate is subjected to alignment treatment in the direction according to the twist angle in a state that no voliage is applied in such a manner that when the layer thickness of the liquid crystal layer is represented by d, the direction of the major axis of the liquid crystal molecule M at the position corresponding to the height (1/4)d is perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the gap between electrodes when the twist angleθof the liquid crystal layer rangesθ<=90 deg. and that the direction of the major axis is parallel to the longitudinal direction of the gap between electrodes when the twist angleθranges 180 deg.<=θ<=270 deg.. |
