PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber alignment method that saves labor and time, that facilitates accurate positioning and that enables automation. SOLUTION: The end face 20 of an optical fiber is moved to an arbitrary z position before a lens focus F in a procedure 1, moved to the maximum point P1 in light quantity by scanning on the xy plane including the z position in a procedure 2, and then moved to the maximum point P1z in light quantity by scanning from the maximum point P1 on the xy plane in the z axis direction in a procedure 3. Then, with the procedures 2, 3 successively repeated, the movement is converged at the point where the maximum value is obtained in the light quantity. By successively repeating the procedures 2, 3, the maximum point in the light quantity is successively found in the direction approaching the lens focus F, which means that the point where the light quantity value is maximized is the lens focus F. Accordingly, by successively approaching the lens focus F without deviating from an optical flux, positioning can be easily performed without requiring much labor even by an unskilled operator, resulting in an accurate positioning.
