PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a range finder for a camera which measure a subject distance with high precision up to a long distance according to the charging state of a capacitor. SOLUTION: First distance measurement is performed in response to the operation of a release switch and light for distance measurement using the energy charged in the capacitor 2 is projected on a body 8 to be measured from a xenon tube 3. Then second distance measurement accompanying the projection of the light for distance measurement is carried out. According to the result of the 1st distance measurement, a CPU 4 decides whether or not the 2nd distance measurement needs to be performed. If the capacitor 2 is insufficiently charged, the 2nd distance measurement is not performed even when it is decided that the 2nd distance measurement is necessary. |
