PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material having low fog and good preservability, satisfying high sensitivity, high Dmax (maximum density) and a high color tone, having small temperature and humidity dependencies in development and optimum for a medical diagnostic image. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material has an image forming layer containing a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, photosensitive silver halide, a reducing agent for silver ions and a binder on one face of the base and contains a compound of the formula (X)k -(L)m -(A-B)n [where X is a silver halide attracting group or a light absorbing group having at least one atom selected from N, S, P, Se and Te; L is a (k+n)-valent linking group having at least one atom selected from C, N, S and O; A is an electron donative group; and B is a releasable group or H]. When the material is heat-developed under the conditions of 121 deg.C and 24 sec after exposure, >=90% of developed silver contacts with the photosensitive silver halide grains after development.
