<p>The invention relates to oleoyl-oestrone or oestrone monooleate which is a monoester of a fatty acid and of an oestrogen which is suitable for preparing a medicament for the treatment and/or prophylaxis of persons suffering from a metabolic disease from the group comprising type 2 diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidaemia (hypertriacylglyceridaemia, hypercholesterolaemia, hyperlipoproteinemia) and Metabolic Syndrome X which is associated with glucose intolerance, hyperinsulinaemia or insulin resistance. Compared to insulin, oleoyl-oestrone offers the advantage of being administered orally. Oleoyl-oestrone is known to be effective as an oral antidiabetic as it does not only act as a hypoglycaemic agent, but it also goes to the root of the problem, diminishing resistance to insulin. Oleoyl-oestrone can also be used to treat dyslipemias owing to the additional hypolipidaemic effects thereof.</p> |
