摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device which can display images with high contrast and preferable reflectance for light and to provide a liquid crystal display device having high reliability which can be driven at a low voltage. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, liquid crystal compositions 21r, 21g, 21b, 21y which show a cholesteric phase at room temperature and select light at specified wavelengths in visible rays and space holding materials 20, 18 to keep the space between substrates 11, 12 are held between a pair of substrates 11, 12 at least one of which is transparent. An alignment stabilizing film 17 is formed on at least one of the substrates 11, 12. Or, an insulating film 15 is formed on at least one of the substrates 11, 12 as well as the alignment stabilizing film 17 is formed on at least one of the substrates 11, 12. The insulating film 15 consists of an organic silicon compound film containing fine particles of inorganic compounds. The alignment stabilizing film 17 consists of a polyimide film of tetracarboxylic acid having aliphatic hydrocarbon rings. The dielectric anisotropy (Δε) of the above liquid crystal composition ranges from 10 to 40, the refractive index anisotropy (Δn) ranges from 0.16 to 0.22 and the viscosity ranges from 30 to 200 [cP].
