The invention provides methods of screening commensal and pathogenic bacteri a for previously unidentified vaccine antigens, based upon identifying polypeptide antigens that bind to sera raised against commensal bacterial proteins. Also provided are vaccine compositions and methods of preparing vaccine compositions comprising the antigens identified by the screening methods. Antigens and uses thereof are also described.
