The method involves determining a load moment (M) and providing overload protection to prevent the load moment exceeding a maximum value. In a region in which the load moment approaches the maximum value the speed (V) and/or acceleration of at least one crane movement is limited by a maximum movement depending in a defined manner and essentially continuously on the deviation of the load moment from the maximum load moment. AN Independent claim is also included for the following: a crane, especially a tower crane, with an arrangement for implementing the method.
