The driven rollers 3 of a roller conveyer are driven by an endless chain 11 in engagement with sprockets 9 each mounted for rotation on the shaft 3a of a roller 3 and releasibly coupled to said roller by a dog coupling 15 mounted for rotation with the shaft but axially movable therealong. The dogs 15b engage radially extending spring clips 27 in the sprocket 9 and are urged into said engagement by a spring 17. The dogs also have a control surface 15a for engagement with a cam surface (18a), Fig. 2 (not shown), of an operating rod 18 movable longitudinally of the conveyer, to move the coupling 15 axially and disconnect the drive to the rollers. The rod is urged into an inoperative position by a spring (20) and is moved by a passing load (23) Fig. 1 (not shown), engaging an arm (21) coupled to said rod to temporarily disconnect the drive to rollers behind the load and thus ensure spacing of the loads on the conveyer. |
