<p>Compds. of formula (I) X & Y = halogen. W = H, halogen or (1-5C)alkyl R = (1-5C) alkyl & R' = acyl. Anti-inflammatories with prolonged oral activity. 9alpha, 11beta-dichloro-16alpha-methyl-pregna-1,4-diene-17alpha, 21-diol-3,20-dione (8.5 g), propionic acid (85 ml) and (CF3CO)2O (30 ml.), were heated 1 h. at 80 deg., cooled to 50 deg., H2O (25 ml.) added, stirred 10 min., and poured into ice-water (850 ml.). Extd. with CH2Cl2 (350 ml.), the extract washed with H2O, 5% NaHCO3-Aq., and H2O till neutral, dried, evapd., and recryst. from EtOAc, giving the diester.</p> |
