The invention relates to a method for preparing fibrous material for producing paper or cardboard. Said method comprises the following steps: a) fibres are prepared in the form of a suspension having a pre-determinable concentration of solid matter, b) the fibres are loaded with a precipitation agent, without refining the material, c) the fibres are refined at the end of the loading process in order to increase the degree of refinement and/or to change the properties of the fibres, and d) the fibrous suspension treated according to steps a) to c) is guided in the direction of the paper machine.
