A sewing machine scalloping attachment has a transport roller (15) driving the fabric (12) forwards and back as required, and two powered (21) vertical needles (19, 20) whose distance apart may be adjusted. The relative transverse positions of the roller and one or both needles is adjusted by a shared cam. The thread-layer is esp. driven by a combined pivoting crank and swing drive. The thread-layer motion drives a swivel action about two intersecting axes (28, 29). The link lever (79) also pivots on the thread layer (74). The link-lever second end pivots on a swivel-lever (85) eccentrically linked to the cam disc (80)
