[Also in Division F2] Wrapping collars for hanks of yarn are made by suctionally gripping one end of a strip on a rotary coiling head 7 and adhering the overlapping ends together. As described, a wrapping strip is lifted from a magazine (25) (Fig. 2, not shown) to the coiling head 7 mounted on the end of a shaft (5), which is driven by a cam shaft 2 through a belt (3). A vacuum is applied through a suction nozzle (6) to hold the wrapping strip on the surface of the coiling head 7, a segment 28 of which is also moved radially outwards by applying the vacuum to a cylinder chamber (46) (Fig. 4, not shown). A glued strip or an adhesive tape is pushed by an arm 17 on to the surface of the strip and the two ends pressed together by a roller 20, whereupon the vacuum is cut off causing the segment 28 of the coiling head 7 to be moved radially inwards by a spring (31). The collar may then be removed from the coiling head 7 by an ejector 27. The sequence of operations is controlled by cams (8-14) mounted on the cam shaft 2. Adhesive may alternatively be applied to the wrapping strip by a roller positioned above the magazine (25). The apparatus is preferably used in conjunction with a printing device. |
