Cotton flock conveyed pneumatically in a duct which supplies a storage hopper associated with a number of carding machines is conditioned to prevent deposition of the flock in the duct by supplying heat to the conveyed flock. Heat is supplied to the duct when the relative humidity of the flock exceeds a predetermined value. Supply of heat is controlled by measuring the relative humidity and temp. in the dust. Measurement takes place on the discharge side of a fan to which one part of the duct is connected and the supply of the heat is effected on the inlet side of the fan to which another part of the duct is connected. Heat supply is discontinued when the humidity falls below a certain level.
