HARDENED VOYAGE DATA RECORDER

PURPOSE: A hardened recorder for voyage data is provided to use data in investigating accidents by protecting data from a voyage data recorder and by recording radar data and sound. CONSTITUTION: A hardened voyage data recorder(10) includes two subsystems which are a removable non-volatile memory and base containing electronic equipments and firmware for communicating with data sensing systems and for accessing the memory. An electronic circuit is formed to access to the auxiliary memory system electronically. The memory is protected in a boiler and the electronic equipment includes an ETHERNET interface for connecting to shipboard data acquisition devices. The firmware is preferably configured via web pages. A communication protocol for communicating with the recorder is also disclosed.
