NEW USE OF DECURSIN AS MELANIN SYNTHESIS INHIBITOR

PURPOSE: Decursin having a melanin inhibiting activity generated by ultraviolet rays and inhibiting tyrosinase activity playing an important role in melanin synthesis is provided which can be used as a skin whitening composition as well as a melanin synthesis inhibitor. CONSTITUTION: The use of decursin as a melanin synthesis inhibitor is identified by treating a B16F10 cell line as a rat melanoma cell line and a G361 cell line as a human melanoma cell line with the decursin, and then measuring a synthetic amount of melanin induced by ultraviolet rays and tyrosinase. The melanin synthesis inhibitor and a skin whitening composition contain 1 to 50 μM decursin as an effective component.
