PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a 3-electrodes surface discharge plasma display panel incorporating therein an energy regeneration circuit is provided to minimize the number of switching devices for use in an X-common driving member and a Y-common driving member. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for driving a plasma display panel incorporating therein an energy regeneration circuit includes a first to a fourth switches(SW1,...SW4), a serial circuit and a sixth switch(SW6). The first and the third switches(SW1,SW3) are commonly connected to a Y electrode line. The second and the fourth switches(SW2,SW4) are commonly connected to an X electrode line. In the serial circuit, a capacitor Cs for charging/discharging charges, a coil L provided with a capacitor and a resonance inductance and a fifth switch(SW5) for controlling a current flow of the capacitor and coil are connected to each other in serial. An end of the sixth switch(SW6) is connected to both ends of an alternative pulse voltage Vs in order to determine whether the alternative pulse is inserted or not. Another end of the sixth switch(SW6), an end of the serial circuit and another ends of the first and the fourth switches(SW1,SW4) are connected to each other. A negative terminal of the alternative pulse voltage Vs, another end of the serial circuit and another ends of the second and the third switches(SW2,SW3) are connected to each other. |
