PURPOSE: A method for fabricating a plastic optical fiber and an apparatus thereof are provided, which have a high productivity and controls a refractive index distribution. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for fabricating a plastic optical fiber fabricates a plastic optical fiber whose refractive index is varied continuously. According to the apparatus, a cylinder(1) injects a transparent polymer resin for optical fiber raw material. And a compound injection cylinder(4) injects a compound of a transparent diffusive material located on a center of the above cylinder(1) and the transparent polymer resin. A diffusion between the transparent diffusive material extruded from the above cylinder(4) and the transparent polymer resin material in the cylinder(1) are occurred in a space(d). An extrusion unit(2) extrudes the polymer resin and the diffusive material in the cylinders.
