Dialkyl sulphoxides prepn

Dialkyl sulphoxides are prepd. by reacing gaseous nitrogen peroxide, which is diluted with oxygen, on the corresponding liquid dialkyl sulphide, which is diluted with the dialkyl sulphoxide. Useful for the prepn. of dimethyl sulphoxide. The process enables the dialkyl sulphoxides to be prepd. under stable controlled conditions without risk of explosions. High yields are obtained.
