A broad-bean variety (Vieia faba L.; named: ''Peas of twins'') is a leguminous plant obtained from genetic material of a wild and free-flowering population by individual selective improvement. The plant is drought resistant, has a short cultivation period, grows to a height of 50-70 cm in main season, has no main stem. It branches over the top of the soil and produces 2-6 shoots. Foliage is arranged in pairs and ends in tendrils. Foliage is arranged in pairs (bipinnate leaf dicomposite) and ends in tendrils. Flowers and pods do not form in groups, but are scattered along stems. Pods contain 2-4 ovules and taste sweet when green. Beans are large. Their cross-section of ripe beans is oval; mid-longitudinal cross section is squared. Pods are sand-coloured at harvest-time, the hilum of beans is tinged black, the beans are not bitter. These beans may be consumed in their green and in their ripe state. They are a good fodder.
|
