PURPOSE: A cosmetic composition containing resorcinol, sphingolipid and metabolite thereof is provided which has a skin whitening action and antioxidation action to inhibit oxidative damage of a biomaterial, thereby deferring and preventing skin aging. CONSTITUTION: The cosmetic composition contains 0.001 to 5% 4-n-butyl-resorcinol by weight represented by the formula 1 and 0.01 to 20% sphingolipid and metabolite thereof by weight, based on the total weight of the composition and is selected from the group consisting of a skin lotion, astringent lotion, nourishing lotion, nourishing cream, massage cream, essence, pack, powder, ointment, suspension, emulsion, spray and cosmetic liquid.
