PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in order to enhance response characteristics of an element, a vertically resonating light emitting diode needs to reduce in size the element, but when the size of the element is reduced, its optical output is decreased. SOLUTION: The vertically resonating light emitting diode comprises a light extracting groove 111 extending to a first semiconductor distribution Bragg reflection mirror, and is formed on the periphery of an electrode 101 having an opening for extracting the light on the surface of the element. Thus, the light emitted in the direction of the side face of the element is extracted in the surface direction of a substrate, and hence the light extracting efficiency is improved. |
