PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable terminal with fingerprint authenticating functions allowing miniaturization. SOLUTION: A portable telephone 10 comprises a body 11, an indication part 12 mounted on the body 11, an operating part 13, a slit 27 and a light guide plate 14. The operating part 13 has a registering button 15 used for registering fingerprints and an authenticating button 16 used for authenticating the fingerprints. The slit 27 is formed on the upper part of the indicating part 12 and the plate 14 is fitted into the slit 27. The plate 14 is made of transparent glass or plastics into a long shape. Lengths in the longitudinal direction of the slit 27 and the plate 14 are set slightly longer than width of a fingerprint region (for example, 2 cm wide), and lengths of short sides of the slit 27 and the plate 14 are set approximate several millimeters. When authenticating the fingerprint, a user moves the fingerprint, while contacting the plate 14 for reading the fingerprint region.
