PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make image display to be restored without waiting time, when the power source of a display device is reloaded even when the power source is made to be interrupted by mistakenly operating the power source switch of the main body of the device or a remote controller or the like in a matrix type display device, in which a lamp is used as a light source. SOLUTION: In an image display device which is provided with the power switch and a light source and in which an images are formed according to video signal which is to be inputted with the light source and displays the image on a screen, when it is detected that the power source switch is opened during the normal operation of the display device (a), when the video signal is continuously inputted, the displaying of the image is eliminated, while maintaining the light source in a lighting state (b) and when the video signal is not inputted, the displaying of the image is eliminated and the power source is turned off. Thereafter, when the power switch is closed (f), the displaying of the image is resumed (h).
