PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for improving the recording information reading performance of an optical disk manufactured so as to be reproduced by light with a different wavelength, and to provide an apparatus for reproducing the optical disk. SOLUTION: In the method for reproducing the optical disk by which information recorded on a recording surface is read while irradiating the optical disk with a light beam with a first wavelength and applying focus control and tracking control to the recording surface of the optical disk on the basis of reflected light, it is discriminated by the focus control and the tracking control whether the optical disk is a first optical disk to be reproduced by a first light beam or a second disk to be reproduced by a light beam with a second wavelength different from the first light beam, and the signal polarity of the tracking control is inverted in the case of the second optical disk.
