PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which can output high quality image with a memory having a smaller capacity. SOLUTION: The image generating apparatus includes image printing means of two types having different image data paths. The first type of printing means compresses image data into JPEG data in tile image units, stores it in a RAM 2002, processes predetermined image data as necessary, and prints the image. The first type of printing means is only required to have a memory of a smaller capacity, by an amount corresponding to the JPEG compression. The second type of printing means transmits read image data to a printer 2095 via a memory 2 (2123) as it is, and then prints the image. Since the second type of printing means performs no data compression, it can print high quality images. These two types of printing means are selectively constituted.
