摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly and sufficiently perform detection of a pixel, the defect of which is to be compensated without depending on performance of an image pickup device. SOLUTION: An image pickup signal obtained by test image pickup is stored in a digital process 108. Upper 32 pixels are selected in an order from the one with the largest dark output level by analyzing the dark output level of the image pickup signal and judged as new defective pixels by the digital process 108 under control of a defect data detecting part 112c. Namely, the worst 32 pixels with the large dark output level are judged as the defective pixels irrespective of a detection level. Since the number of detected pixels is restricted to 32, generation of deterioration of image quality due to increase of the number of detected pixels as many as the number of pixels to be compensated becomes equal to or more than the number of pixels allowed by the defect compensation processing is prevented.
