PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a processing method for a black-and-white silver halide photographic sensitive material capable of diminishing residual color due to a sensitizing dye. SOLUTION: In the processing method for a black-and-white silver halide photographic sensitive material in which the material is processed using an automatic processing machine through developing, fixing, washing and drying steps, development is carried out with a developer not substantially containing a dihydroxybenzene developing agent, containing ascorbic acid or its derivative as a developing agent and further containing at least one compound of formula (I) or (II). In the formula (I), R<1> is carboxyl or its salt, sulfo or its salt; R<2> is a substituent other than hydroxyl and formyl; and (m) is an integer of 1-5. In the formula (II), R<3> is a substituent and (n) is an integer of 1-5.
