PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic document feeder and an image reader which can improve the operability and safety during jam processing and maintenance. SOLUTION: Provided area an exit unit 90g which opens and closes an ADF bottom part, 1st sheet type elastic members 90a and 90c which are bonded to the bottom surface of the exit unit 90g, 2nd sheet type elastic members 90b and 90d which are fitted to a bottom cover 90f covering the bottom surface of a stack part H at a distance from the 1st sheet type elastic members 90a and 90c and can move in parallel to the bottom cover 90f as the exit unit 90g is opened and closed, and one white sheet type elastic member 90 which is bonded to the bottom surfaces of the sheet type elastic members 90a and 90b.
