PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high signal output from a magnetic recording medium coped with the increase of the recording density. SOLUTION: On at least one yoke (upper yoke 12 in the case of figure) out of the upper yoke 12 and a lower yoke 13 constituting a magnetic core 14, a gap 12a is arranged at the position of the inner side than the confronted surface 10a of the magnetic recording medium. Then, a plurality of magnetoresistive effect elements(MR elements) 15a, 15b are disposed on the surface different from the forming surface of the upper yoke 12, while being positioned in this gap 12a.
