PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an image without unnatural feeling around a threshold while storing image density when a ground level of an original is eliminated. SOLUTION: A ground detection block 21 detects the ground level of the original from image data by which the original is read. An offset part 22 creates the threshold Dth1 based on the detected ground level. A clip circuit 23 clips image data Drd0 equal to or more than the created threshold Dth1 to a value of the threshold Dth1. The image data Drd0 and the threshold Dth1 are composited by a compositing part 24 and become image data Drd1 and the ground level of the original is eliminated by a ground eliminating part after an image processing such as MTF compensation is performed at an image processing part at a rear stage of the compositing part.
