PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a photothermographic image forming material in which high stability of an undercoating liquid and high film strength after coating are achieved and low fog, high sensitivity, high density and good image preservability are ensured and to provide an image recording method for the photothermographic image forming material less liable to cause unevenness in interference in image formation and giving a uniform finish of development and high sharpness. SOLUTION: In the method for producing a photothermographic image forming material having an undercoat layer and a photosensitive layer containing photosensitive silver halide grains, an organic silver salt, a reducing agent and a binder on the base, when the undercoat layer is disposed by coating, a coating liquid for the layer contains a volatile material and the layer is irradiated with microwave after disposal. In the image recording method, scanning laser light used for recording an image in the photothermographic image forming material is a double beam having the same wavelength and different incident angles.
