PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide photographic emulsion having high sensitivity, high contrast and good preservability. SOLUTION: The silver halide photographic emulsion has been subjected to gold-chalcogen sensitization and absorption intensity at the absorption maximum of the absorption spectrum of formed gold-chalcogen sensitization centers is >=50% of that at the absorption maximum of the absorption spectrum of chalcogen sensitization centers formed in the same way with the exception of nonuse of a gold sensitizer.
