The energy source comprises a capacitor, between the plates of which are two plasma devices. The capacitor is electrically charged to a high voltage, and the plasma devices are repeatedly energised and de-energised, providing a source of electrical energy. The energy source comprises a capacitor with at least two metallic plates (2,3) facing each other and connected to the terminals of the source (4,5). A circuit is provided for charging the capacitor to a high voltage, and this comprises a set of plasma plates facing the metallic plates. These plasma plates are connected to an interruption or switching circuit (16,17) to form intermittently a set of two capacitors in series, each comprising a metallic plate and a plasma plate. The plasma plates comprise a cylindrical hollow ring and a tube forming a hollow mast inside the cylindrical ring. The metallic plates may be formed by a flat skin applied to the ring and the mast.
