PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the reliability of a readout signal by eliminating the influence of reflected light which is scattered in the vicinity of the projected part of a near field optical probe. SOLUTION: The near field optical probe 1 is provided with a projected part 5 having a form of a circular conic trapezoid which is integrated with a projected layer 4 which is formed with a material having a high refractive index on a translucent base plate 2, the side of the projected part is coated with a metallic coating layer 3, and a light absorbing layer 8 is provide between the translucent base plate 2 around the projected part 5 and the metallic coating layer 3. As for the light absorbing layer 8, a photoresist or the like, for example, is used and the light with which the circumference of the projected part 5 is irradiated is absorbed by the light absorbing layer 8, thus the reliability of the light intensity which is detected through a lens 15 is assured.
