PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power amplifier that can quickly detect abnormity of a load so as to protect an output without power loss. SOLUTION: A test signal with a prescribed frequency and a signal level is given to an amplifier and its output level is measured. The measured level is compared with an output level that is predicted when the test signal is supplied to the amplifier with a proper load connected thereto to detect the state of the load. When the load is found to be short-circuited or open as a result of decision, the operation of the amplifier is quickly stopped to protect the amplifier.
